Boron Nitride Ceramics: Crucibles, Nozzles And Custom Shapes

Hot-pressed hexagonal boron nitride is one of the very few ceramics that can be machined on conventional equipment with ordinary carbide tooling. That means real components — crucibles, nozzles, break rings, setter plates, sleeves, spacers, insulators — can be supplied to a drawing in prototype quantities without the tooling cost of a pressed part. Pyroflux India supplies machined boron nitride components to Indian and overseas customers from a drawing or a sample. In service the material does what no metal can: molten aluminium, glass and most slags will not wet it, it is an excellent electrical insulator while still conducting heat well, and its very low net thermal expansion lets it be quenched and cycled without cracking. Send a drawing and we will quote the part and the lead time.

Applications

Where Solid Boron Nitride Earns Its Cost

Molten Metal Handling

Crucibles, nozzles, pour spouts and break rings for aluminium, magnesium and precious metals; the metal does not stick or dissolve the part.

Continuous And Strip Casting

Break rings and side dams where thermal shock, non-wetting and dimensional stability all matter at once.

Furnaces And Sintering

Setter plates, trays, spacers and insulators that run beyond graphite’s limit in air and leave no carbon on the parts.

High-Voltage And High-Temperature Insulation

Insulators, feedthroughs and spacers that must insulate electrically while conducting heat away.

Crystal Growth And Semiconductor Hardware

Non-contaminating fixtures and components for clean, high-purity processes.

Glass Forming

Plunger tips, guides and small tooling that glass does not wet.

Ordering

How To Get a Quote

  1. Send a drawing (PDF or DXF) or a sample part, with the quantity and the duty: temperature, atmosphere, what it touches.
  2. We confirm the grade and machining tolerances and quote the part and lead time.
  3. Prototype quantities ship first; production follows on the same drawing.

Boron nitride parts are best cleaned dry, with wipes or fine abrasive paper rather than liquids, and stored sealed in a dry place; the material absorbs moisture, which shortens life at temperature.

Frequently asked

Common Questions

What tolerances can be held?

Hot-pressed boron nitride machines like a soft metal, so ordinary machining tolerances are achievable. State the critical dimensions on the drawing and we confirm them at quotation.

Which grade should I specify?

High-purity grades for electrical insulation and clean processes; composite grades where molten-metal erosion or mechanical strength matters. Tell us the duty and we pick the grade.

Is there a minimum quantity?

No. One-off prototypes are quoted per part.

Can a coating do the same job?

Often, at lower cost: a BN coating on a steel or refractory substrate gives the same non-wetting surface. Solid parts are the answer where the whole component must be inert and insulating, or where a coating would wear through.
