Boron Nitride Aerosol Spray

Pyroflux India makes a ready-to-use hexagonal boron nitride aerosol that lays down a thin, even white release film in seconds. There is nothing to weigh, stir or dilute, and no brush marks, which is exactly what a shop floor needs for touch-ups between shots, awkward geometry and anyone who is not a coatings technician. The film is not wetted by molten aluminium, zinc, magnesium or glass, keeps lubricating to about 900 °C in air, and leaves no carbon behind. Typical duties are die and mould release in casting and forging, protecting thermocouple sheaths and furnace fixtures, stopping weld spatter adhesion and keeping tooling clean in aluminium extrusion. It replaces imported BN aerosols can for can on the same tooling, from stock in Noida.

What Is In The Can

Typical specification, Pyroflux h-BN aerosol spray
FormAerosol, ready to use — no dilution
Pack size500 mL can, 300 g net; cartons of 12
Solid lubricantHexagonal boron nitride (white graphite)
Coating colourWhite
Service temperatureUp to ≈900 °C in air; ≈1400 °C in vacuum; up to ≈1800 °C in inert gas, grade and film dependent
DryingCarrier flashes off in seconds at room temperature; no curing step
Typical usesDie and mould release, weld spatter release, furnace fixtures, thermocouple protection, glass forming tools, extrusion die faces
Service temperature depends on atmosphere, substrate and film thickness. h-BN begins to oxidise in air at roughly 850–900 °C; the higher figures apply only in vacuum or inert gas. Tell us your atmosphere and we will give the rating that applies to your process.
How to use it

Three Passes, No Equipment

  1. Clean the surface. Loose oxide, old graphite or oil under the film will shorten its life.
  2. Shake the can well, hold it 20 to 25 cm from the surface and apply a light, even pass. Thin coats bond better than one heavy pass; add a second light pass once the first has flashed off.
  3. Allow a few seconds for the carrier to flash off. A warm surface (hand-warm to around 100 °C) speeds drying and improves adhesion; it can also be sprayed onto hot tooling with care.
  4. Reapply when release starts to deteriorate. On a die face that is usually every few shots; on furnace fixtures, between campaigns.

For every billet on a running extrusion press, or for coating launders, ladles and large moulds, the aerosol is the wrong tool: use a dilutable BN suspension through a spray lance, or a BN wax stick on tooling that is already hot.

Where it is used

Jobs The Aerosol Does Well

Die Casting And Permanent Moulds

Touch-up release on die faces, cores and ejector areas between shots; a white film that does not stain castings.

Forging And Hot Stamping

Release on small dies and punches, and a quick start for a new die set before the regular lubricant takes over.

Aluminium Casthouses

Thermocouple sheaths, skimmers, small tools and fixtures that would otherwise be attacked by molten aluminium.

Welding And Brazing

Keeps spatter off fixtures, jigs and nozzles; brazing fixtures release cleanly without contaminating the joint.

Glass Forming

Release on moulds, plungers and shears where graphite would mark the ware.

Furnaces And Sintering

Setters, trays and fixtures where parts must not stick or pick up carbon.

Frequently asked

Common Questions

Is this a direct replacement for imported boron nitride sprays?

Yes. It is the same type of product: hexagonal boron nitride in a fast-drying carrier, applied from an aerosol, and it is used on the same tooling in the same way. Pyroflux makes it in Noida, so it ships from stock without import lead times.

What temperature can the film take?

About 900 °C in air, where boron nitride begins to oxidise. In vacuum the commonly cited limit is about 1400 °C and in nitrogen or argon it goes higher still. Always tell us your atmosphere.

How many cans do I need?

Coverage depends on film thickness and overspray, so we quote it per application rather than per can. For a trial, one carton of 12 is enough to run a die or fixture for several weeks.

Can I use it on tooling that is already hot?

Yes, with care: spray in short passes so the carrier flashes off evenly. For tooling that is permanently hot and in the press, a BN wax stick is usually the cleaner option.

Do you supply a technical data sheet and SDS?

Yes. Use the Request TDS / SDS button and we email both within one working day.
