Pyrolube 25S: Fast-Drying Boron Nitride Release Coating For Cold Moulds
Pyrolube 25S is an alcohol-based hexagonal boron nitride release coating made by Pyroflux India for moulds and tooling that are coated cold and used immediately. It is sprayed or brushed at room temperature, the carrier flashes off in minutes, and the dry white h-BN film is ready for service without a bake. That makes it the general-purpose release agent for permanent moulds, gravity and low-pressure die casting tooling, ingot moulds, ladles and fixtures that are coated between campaigns, and for any substrate that should not see water. The film is not wetted by molten aluminium, zinc, magnesium or glass and leaves no carbon. Where a water-based coating is preferred, or where tooling is already hot, see Pyrolube 20 and the BN wax sticks.

From The Technical Data Sheet

| Carrier | Alcohol-based, fast-drying |
| Appearance | White liquid |
| Drying | Minutes at room temperature; no bake required |
| Application | Spray gun, brush or dip at room temperature; thin coats |
| Pack sizes | 1 kg sample; 5, 20, 50 and 200 kg |
Coating Cold Tooling
- Clean the mould or tool of oxide, old coating and oil; a lightly abraded surface holds the film best.
- Stir, then spray or brush a thin, even coat at room temperature. A second thin coat after the first has dried gives a more durable film than one heavy coat.
- Allow the carrier to flash off, a few minutes in a ventilated area. The film is then ready for service.
- Bring the tooling up to working temperature as usual; touch up high-wear areas between campaigns rather than recoating everything.
Where Pyrolube 25S Fits
Permanent And Gravity-Die Moulds
Coated between campaigns at room temperature; aluminium and zinc release cleanly with a mirror-like surface finish.
Ingot Moulds, Ladles And Skimmers
A non-wetting barrier that is brushed on quickly and dries before the tool is back in use.
Fixtures And Jigs
Brazing and heat-treatment fixtures, thermocouple sheaths and small tooling where water-based coating is inconvenient.
Glass And Ceramics Tooling
Release on moulds and formers where carbon marking is unacceptable.
Common Questions
Why alcohol-based rather than water-based?
Speed and substrate. The carrier dries in minutes at room temperature with no bake, and it suits tooling that should not see water, or that is coated cold and used straight away.
Can it be used on hot tooling?
It can be sprayed onto warm tooling in short passes, but it is designed for cold application. For tooling that is permanently hot and in the press, use a BN wax stick or Pyrolube 20 through a spray lance.
Does it leave any residue on the casting?
Only a trace of white, inert boron nitride at most; there is no carbon, no oil and no staining.
How is it packed and stored?
In sealed containers from 1 kg to 200 kg. Store sealed, cool and away from ignition sources; stir before use.
