Anti-Stick Top Coats For Sheet Gasket Materials
Gasket sheet that has been cut and installed must not stick to the flange when the joint is opened, and the sheet must run through the maker’s coating line without fouling the rollers. Pyroflux India makes Aeroflex, a water-based graphite top coat for sheet gasket materials, applied on a roller coater at the customer’s dilution. It gives the familiar grey anti-stick face on compressed-fibre, beater-addition and similar sheet, dries in the line’s existing oven, and is formulated to the line rather than sold from a catalogue: roller type, line speed, dilution and drying all go into the formulation. Where a white, carbon-free face is required, or where the gasket runs at temperatures beyond graphite, a boron nitride version of the same coating is available.

Aeroflex Gasket Top Coat
| Pigment | Graphite, a fine fraction for a smooth face and a coarser fraction for anti-stick |
|---|---|
| Carrier | Water; supplied as a concentrate and diluted on the line |
| Application | Roller coater (sand-blasted rubber or steel rolls); also sprayable |
| Drying | In the line’s existing oven |
| Finish | Uniform grey anti-stick face |
| Also available | A boron nitride version for a white, carbon-free face or higher-temperature gaskets |
What a Roller-Coater Top Coat Has To Get Right
- No build-up on the roll. A coating that dries on the roll between sheets imprints a pattern on the next sheet. Aeroflex is formulated for the slow-agitated drum feed and sand-blasted rolls most lines use, and the dilution is set to keep the roll clean.
- Even transfer. Two graphite fractions give a smooth face without bare patches at normal line speed.
- Dry in the oven you have. Drying is matched to the line’s oven length and temperature; no extra equipment.
- Dilutable. Supplied as a concentrate; the line sets the dilution for the sheet grade.
If a top coat is building up on your roll or imprinting the sheet, send us a photo of the roll, the dilution and the line speed; it is usually the coating, not the line.
Formulated To The Line, Not The Catalogue
Gasket makers rarely run identical lines, so Aeroflex is adjusted to each: roller surface, drum feed, line speed, oven, sheet grade and the face finish the customer wants. The development runs on samples of your sheet on our side and then on your line, with the formulation locked once the roll stays clean through a shift. See custom coatings for how that works and what we do not do.
The Gasket Release Range: Four Pigments
Aeroflex is the roller-coater top coat developed for one gasket line; the full range covers every common gasket substrate and release pigment:
| Grade | Release pigment | Form | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Graphex range | Graphite in water | Ready for use and paste grades | Paper, fibre, rubber and metal gaskets |
| F-200 | Mica in water | Ready for use | Paper, fibre, rubber and metal gaskets |
| F-400 | Mica in water | Paste | Paper, fibre, rubber and metal gaskets |
| BN-20 | Boron nitride in water | Ready for use | Paper, fibre, rubber and metal gaskets |
| TX-100 | PTFE in water | Ready for use | Paper, fibre, rubber and metal gaskets |
All of them apply by spray, brush, roller or printing, and each can be adjusted to the line in solids, viscosity and colour. Coated gaskets gain release and anti-stick, wear resistance, resistance to water and pressure, chemical resistance and surface protection. Application notes come with the data sheets.
Common Questions
Is a forging graphite dispersion suitable as a gasket top coat?
Usually not. Hot-forging dispersions are formulated to film on a 300 °C die, not to transfer evenly from a roller onto sheet at room temperature and dry in a short oven. A gasket top coat is a different formulation even though the pigment is the same.
Can the coat be white?
Yes. A boron nitride version gives a white, carbon-free anti-stick face and suits gaskets that run beyond graphite’s temperature limit.
What dilution does Aeroflex run at?
It depends on the sheet and the line; the data sheet gives a starting range and the line sets the final ratio for the face it wants.
Do you supply a technical data sheet and SDS?
Yes, by email within one working day of a request.
